Kim Smith RGN, NIP is a qualified Nurse Independent Prescriber and an invaluable member of The Cheshire Image Clinic team which was established in 1989, and is renown for its commitment to patient safety, consistent excellent treatment results and nurse education.
Kim has a wealth of experience in the field of medical aesthetics, and has been working full time in this speciality since 2001.
For the following treatments the consultation is free and a price will be given upon consultation
The treatments that she offers include:
Consultation – This is an essential element which enables the patient to understand what qualifies the nurse to offer advice, and which allows the nurse to discover how best to help the patient.
Medical aesthetics is the only branch of medicine that is completely unregulated, and as a result, we find that treatments are often performed by people who do not possess the correct skills, knowledge or education which would lead to a safe, pleasing result. The Cheshire Image Clinic has been actively lobbying government for the past 10 years to change this situation, and has recently co-authored An Integrated Career and Competency Framework for Nurses in Aesthetic Medicine (September 2013).
During the consultation a full medical history is taken, and the aesthetic needs of the patient are fully diagnosed. The nurse will discuss patient aims, and whether they are achievable. The patient will have every opportunity to ask questions and, where appropriate, a treatment plan will be prepared. Options, benefits, risks, limitations, and prices are discussed at this stage.
Diagnosis – The skilled nurse will apply facial mapping to ascertain how the patient is ageing, taking into account any previously traumatized areas and previous treatments. Kim’s experience, conference attendance and cadaver workshops have enabled the nurse to know and understand exactly how the structures underneath the skin are performing, and she will advise on the options available to the individual in order to address the various issues. The Cheshire Image Clinic works very closely with Cosmetic Surgeons and Kim can provide surgical consultation for those who are considering a surgical option.
Facial Botox® - Botulinum Toxin Type A is often the chosen treatment option for the upper third of the face where dermal skin fractures are causing mental distress for the patient. Because treatment results are not seen till 3-10 days later, a follow-up appointment is made for the patient to be reviewed 4 weeks later, especially in the case of new patients or new treatment areas. Botox may also be used in other areas of the body: It is excellent at providing “lift” and improved skin tonicity, and can be used to pick up a down turned nose, lift the jowls, lengthen the chin, soften lipstick bleed lines, smooth out lines on the neck and décolleté.
Botox for Hyperhidrosis - Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which can adversely affect your quality of life. Excessive sweating of the underarms or of the palms and soles of the feet are most common. Heat and emotions may trigger hyperhidrosis in some, but many frequently suffer from this condition regardless of their mood or the weather. Excessive sweating is embarrassing and often complicates business and social interactions and in severe cases, excess sweat can have serious practical consequences.
Dermal Fillers – Natural sugar based proteins (Hyalurons) are used to act as a “cushion” to gently lift out skin wrinkles and areas of depression. Pleasing results are seen instantly. The fillers used by The Cheshire Image Clinic are safe, bio-degradable, comfortable and long lasting.
They are available in a variety of strengths, with some being designed for the very mobile area around the mouth and others being more robust, which would be better placed in the cheek or chin.
The nurse will ascertain what strength of product will be needed in order to meet patient expectations, and it will be left for the patient to decide how much improvement she or he wishes to see, which is often dictated by the amount of money the patient wishes to spend.
Facial Volumisers – The mid-face is an area where loss of volume can become very visible, and the nurse will use all her skills to safely and gently replace what has been lost through disease or age. Up-lifted facial contours enhance expression and become more attractive as an immediate result.
This treatment can also be used to enhance lower face contours and is especially useful for patients whose lower chin is out of proportion to the rest of the face.
Thread Vein Removal – Sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice for removal of thread veins on the legs. The treatments are performed at monthly intervals and the patient will know how many treatments are recommended prior to embarking on a course.
A series of small precise injections are used to safely close the blood vessel over a period of time and following a number of treatments.
Thread veins on the face are often best treated by Intense Pulsed Light.
Chemical Peel – This treatment is used where there is an existing skin problem such as pigmentation, photo-ageing or scarring. Chemical peels are very beneficial for improving texture and refreshing the overall appearance of the skin, however the side effects do mean that the patient will have a dry, “leathered appearance”, especially around day 3-6 following administration.
Minor Surgery – Kim is able to utilize more of her nursing skills by removing “lumps, bumps, moles, cysts and warts” There are several different methods of removal, and the taking of samples for histology is an important part of her work. She will advise on the most suitable methods and price during the consultation.
At all times Kim Smith RGN, NIP will apply all her knowledge, experience and expertise to ensure a safe, appropriate and pleasing treatment episode, using evidence based medical techniques.
